About Omani Journalists Association

The Omani Journalists Association was founded on 21/4/2004 by 45 founding members, and is managed by an elected board of directors consisting of 12 members, including the Chairman, deputy chairman, secretary and treasurer. The Omani Journalists Association operates according to the provisions of the law of civil societies and its administrative and financial affairs are subject to the law of civil societies’ executive regulations. The Association includes more than 800 members, and their membership is renewed at the end of each year. The number of the annual memberships renewed ranges from 250 to 350 members, reaching 400 members occasionally during the election period. The occupational function of the Association is derived from several goals, the most essential of such:

1- Working to protect the principles of journalism based on the principles of society and professional ethics and in accordance with the Basic Law of the State and the applicable Laws of the Sultanate.

2- Supporting and strengthening relations between journalists, members of the Association, and journalists working in newspapers around the Globe.

3- Contributing to the advancement of the Omani press to be the expressive and truthful face of the Sultanate of Oman in all Arab, regional and international forums.

4- Raising the cultural and professional level of journalists through holding courses in journalism and press conferences.

The Association is keen to implement many activities and programs on an annual basis at both local and international levels, and focuses greatly on the process of training, qualifying journalists in various fields related to journalism and media work, and exposing journalists to the experiences of the world.
